Colección de Arte Amalia LaCroze de Fortabat

by: Shantra Hannibal | 03 March 2010 | section: The Culture

The Colección de Arte Amalia LaCroze de Fortabat is the latest and greatest display of art in Buenos Aires’ Puerto Madero – but don’t make the mistake of calling it a museum. The newest gallery of paintings and objects in Puerto Madero are a stunning portion of the wealthiest woman in Argentina’s personal collection of over a thousand works of art and an absolute must-see for any Buenos Aires visitor.

Bright Colours at the BAC

by: Shantra Hannibal | 23 November 2009 | section: The Culture

Amid the multitude of unique art galleries in Buenos Aires, The British Arts Centre is hosting artist Simon Boyd’s latest exhibit, ‘The Jousters’ Banquet’. A pastel-coloured trip down the winding stairs of the gallery exposes a world of knights, fighting roosters, and what perceptions a move from the UK to Argentina can produce.

A Belgian’s View of Patagonia

by: Victor Lepoutre | 09 November 2009 | section: The Culture

Patagonia has been a land of inspiration for many. Already in 1893, William Henry Hudson wrote Idle Days in Patagonia, a book that has been a reference for the Fundación Patagonica, a group of more than 40 Belgian artists who also used the Argentine region as a muse and without ever having set foot in the area.

A Peek into People’s Life and Past

by: Victor Lepoutre | 13 October 2009 | section: The Culture

For the tenth time, Banco Ciudad chose to give a chance to photography professionals and amateurs to exhibit their work Centro Cultural Recoleta. The exhibition includes pictures of the last ten contests, and those taken between 2000 and 2009. ‘Gente de mi ciudad’ has always been the theme in focus (which would translate into ‘people of my city’).

Sculptures of the Human Condition

by: Victoria Nwosu-Hope | 28 September 2009 | section: The Culture

It is the third occasion that works by Argentine sculptor Laura Nucenovich have been exhibited in Galería Thames, and her collection, ‘Sobre nudos y sobre el ser’, is an impressive addition to her already well established reputation at the Palermo gallery. The exhibition is a series of figuras and nudos (knots), sculpted in iron and acrylic.

by: Kelsey Marie Bell | 20 August 2009 | section: The Culture

From the sizzling flourescent light saber clashes to the metallic wheezing of Darth Vader’s grated breath what’s not to love about ‘Star Wars’? For those whose life would not have been complete without ever hearing Chewbacca’s moans, or for those whose prepubescent fantasies revolved around Princess Laya, look no further than Centro Cultural Recoleta!

Casa l’Inc – Creating the Connection

by: Caelainn Barr | 28 May 2009 | section: The Culture

Casa L’Inc is a small gallery on a street corner in Palermo. The building’s exterior may be unassuming but the large comic strip mural tells of the hushed revolution going on inside. Only in their first year, Casa L’Inc projects have roused interest in artists and the public.

The Proof is in the Pictures

by: Thomas Lee-Steere | 21 May 2009 | section: The Culture

Many photographers try to capture the essence of a city by focusing on a few aspects which they see as epitomical of the place. Often the result is a very limited view, a look through one person’s peephole. In ‘Buenos Aires – Out of Series’, the photographers take to the streets like beggars.
