‘Just living for the weeknights’: Le Bar

by: Victoria Nwosu-Hope | 21 December 2009 | section: The Night

Each weekend, I am left staggered by Buenos Aires’ magnificent nightlife. The city swells with its plethora of restaurants, bars, clubs, galleries, theatres and live music spots. They pulsate, emitting beats which synthesise, composing the rhythm of the noche porteña.

The Hype About Hype

by: Rachel Hall | 30 November 2009 | section: The Night

Hype by name and hyped by nature, there are guaranteed queues outside Kika at its popular Tuesday night party. By a comparatively early 2am, expect to see hordes of North American girls in glittery frocks and high heels elbowing their way to the front of the queue in a less than ladylike fashion. Inside, their outfits are justified, as Kika is a glamorous venue.

Club 69: BA’s Sexy Club Turns Eleven

by: Julian Stetter | 10 October 2009 | printed in: Edition 58 | section: The Night

The position of sexuality in the Argentine society seems controversial. On the one hand, the country has got the highest rate of Catholics of the whole continent, conservative values are still upheld and religious practices form a part of daily life. On the other hand, porteños are known for their openness towards the subject of telos which mark the inner city of the continent’s gay capital and have an ever-growing clientele.

Milión, ten years young

by: Stephanie E. Santana | 10 July 2009 | printed in: Edition 55 | section: The Night

As I walked along the long hallway into the restaurant, I felt like I was entering into my own jazz-aged, sepia-toned movie. Originally a home built in 1913, a three storey mansion is now the location of Milión, a restaurant and bar that is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Does Gambling Float your Boat?

by: Paul Finnerty | 18 June 2009 | section: The Night

Put your money where your mouth is. It’s the ace of spades. Baby I’ve got your money. Diamonds are forever. The odd suave suit, sweet jazz music, high stakes and intriguing spins of the wheel are what await you at Puerto Madero Casino. That’s if you know how to get there.

Do you harbour a secret urge to shake your hips Shakira style on stage? Perhaps you repress a longing to fill a room with Ricky Martin like refrains? Don’t carry on hiding your talent under a bushel. Free your inner diva at Probar, “a karaoke pioneer”, in Buenos Aires.

Godoy – Fusion Fun

by: María Agustina Izurieta | 01 December 2008 | printed in: Edition 48 | section: The Night

If you think that Peruvian and Japanese cuisine are nothing like one another, well little do you know. Apparently this combination is huge all over the world and Buenos Aires couldn’t be any less.

Swing On By: Anchorena

by: Sean O'Hare | 22 August 2008 | printed in: Edition 43 | section: The Night

Just as the Lord warned Adam not to eat the apple, my father warned me to stay away from seedy bars in Argentina. I was reminded of his words within seconds of setting foot outside my Barrio Norte apartment and discovering Argentina’s one and only swingers bar four doors down

Mondays Are In

by: Anette Berve | 13 June 2008 | printed in: Edition 39 | section: The Night

Monday nights in Buenos Aires are generally quiet. So what is a poor restless soul to do? The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind. Blowing you all the way down to La Cigale for some live music.
