The New Medical Tourism Mecca

Tourists have long felt the pull of Argentina’s stunning landscapes, vibrant culture and sumptuous gastronomy. However, as demand soars for a low cost tummy tuck or affordable fertility treatment, a new attraction is drawing scores of international visitors to the country: the surgeon’s knife. Reports show that the number of patients from the US flying to Argentina for medical procedures has increased by 75% in the last 12 months.

Voluntourism – Holiday or Help?

Leading British news website for the voluntary sector, Charity Finance, has revealed that the numbers of people travelling across the globe to be volunteers has rocketed in recent years. Catherine Raynor, media manager of international charity VSO, says that “the climate of redundancies is drawing in more people”.

Tom Dieusaert – journalist

An epic journey. A man travels the length of Latin America in a Volkswagen Beetle in search of adventure, culture and self-discovery. Tom Dieusaert, a 41-year-old journalist from Belgium, has written a book, ‘Diarios del Vocho’, about the epic journey that took him from Mexico to Argentina, through 13 countries. He ended his trip in 2004 in Buenos Aires, and has lived her ever since.

Hugh MacDermott – wanderer

The Faena Hotel – Parallel Universe

A doorman beckons you in through towering glass doors. Upon entering, the scene opens out on to a hallucinogenic 80-metre long hallway draped in gold curtains. As you step on to the blood-red carpet underfoot, you become aware of a soundtrack playing in the background.
